"I'm not ready." You never will be.
"I'll sign up to your fitness challenge once I lose a bit more weight."
I got this message from a potential challenger a few weeks back and it honestly made me laugh.
Because how ridiculous does it sound that you have to already be in shape to join a challenge that helps you get in shape?
It reminded me of a time I signed up for a boxing fight.
At that point I was eight years rusty and completely out of the sport of Thai boxing. I was in no shape to jump into a ring with anyone, let alone fight in front of a crowd of 1,000 people.
The fear and anxiety that gripped me every day had to go. So one day I signed up and said "f*ck it."
I made the commitment and everything changed. I started taking boxing seriously again. I rewatched the Rocky films, found a local coach and walked straight into the process of painfully being exposed.
I still remember the first time I stepped into the ring to spar. Within one round I was flat on the floor with exhaustion. Me. A personal trainer of 15 years. Ex military. Someone who always thought of himself as fearless and fit. I was almost being sick on the floor from how unfit I felt in that moment.
Everyone there saw me struggle and I felt embarrassed. But that embarrassment pushed me harder to get better. Knowing I had a real opponent waiting for me in just 14 weeks forced me to rise to the challenge.
And because I had told my family, friends and social media, there was no backing out. I had to show up.
Fast forward and I fought to a draw. I learned the skills, rebuilt my conditioning and dragged myself back into shape. But most importantly, I learned how to overcome crippling anxiety and the fear that comes with it.

Here is the point. I was not ready when I signed up. I did not feel confident. I did not feel fit. I did not feel good enough. Most people feel the same about starting their fitness journey. They think they need to get fitter before joining something that is designed to get them fitter. That belief keeps people stuck more than anything else.
You will never feel ready. You cannot rely on feeling ready. You make the commitment first, and the motivation comes after.
When you commit, you show up. You have hard days, you build great memories and you come out a different person on the other side.
That is why you should join our FREE 14 Day Fitmas Challenge starting 8 December 2025.

In this challenge you will adopt a new habit each day. It might be drinking 3 litres of water one day or performing 100 reps of a simple exercise the next. The goal is to get you into a healthier rhythm before Christmas and set you up for your healthiest and happiest year in 2026.
Imagine entering Christmas feeling lighter, clearer, more in control and proud of yourself instead of telling yourself you will start again in January.
If you want to join, click the link and sign up.
It is free and there are no catches.
Show up and shape up.
